Women and Children First

By John Immel

This blog apostle gig is exhausting. I have to talk endlessly about Submission and Authority. I have to figure out how to justify an apostolic authority without an apostolic succession since I’m not Catholic.

And I have to protect all those people with my apostolic authority.

Oh, wait…I can’t say that. Because when it comes time to actually cover someone, where am I?

….

…..

….

You know…screw it…I think I have been too subtle. Let’s try blunt. It turns out that I can’t get my Funny Bone re-attached on this one.

Let’s try ranting, raving flamingly, in your face unapologetic.  Noel told her story on www.sgmsurvivors.com about her three-year-old daughter being molested by a 15-year-old boy in a Sovereign Grace Ministries church, and the ensuing pastoral counseling ordeal that spans YEARS. The boy lies to the pastors about his actions and his evil. The pastors, in a stroke of utter insanity,  play spiritual patty cake with the boy and villainize the parents.… Read the rest

Sovereign Grace Motive

By John Immel

Concerned asked me a couple of questions in my post Speaking of Church Polity.  I think the content of the question and the corresponding answer needs its own treatment.

Here is what she asked:

John, in reading some things about the various forms of church government, it seems most “truly” reformed churches adhere to either a congregational or presbyterian form of church government. However, the SGM model is episcopalian it seems (heirarchy: power flows from the top down only)

So here is my question – why do you think SGM tries to pass themselves off as Reformed simply because they are Calvinistic when none of their other beliefs remotely resemble historical reformed theology?

Is is fair to say SGM is Calvinistic but not reformed, even though they call themselves reformed?

*     *     *

I LOVE these questions.  I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THESE QUESTIONS.  LOVE IT.  LOVE IT. LOVE IT.  That means you all are catching on.  These questions show forth that people are actually looking at the content of what the Hair Club for Men claim.  And if you are looking at the content, it becomes very easy to see that the Arena of Ideas they fancy themselves in is NOT as neat and tidy and unarguable as Sovereign Grace Ministries would like to pretend.… Read the rest

The Very Important Things of Blog Apostleness

By John Immel

Now that I am a universal covering, I need to be careful. I mean, I am doing the work of the ministry with excellence so not just anybody can get up and talk in the blog prophesy mic. It is a valuable, valuable tool in spreading the Gospel of God. And what comes out of that mic, well, I alone am uniquely qualified to say what is God and what is not. So, in the words of the modern day pastor Eric Theodore Cartman, “You Will Respect My Authoritah!”

What is my authority for?

Well, it is to for being respected and doing important things.

What important things?

Hummm… protecting the prophesy mic and making sure that those who want to preach on my blog are subject to my good pleasure. I am a blog tyrant, and many of you are tyrants in training like Timothy. You need that oversight.… Read the rest

Free Bird Tells Her Story

Much to my great consternation, Free Bird’s comments got deleted in my Post:  I will give you …. covering

For the life of me, I can’t figure out why. Her old posts are gone, but her new stuff is still here.

Whatever the reason — rookie bloggerness, Spam Karma incompetence, demons, or “sound doctrine central” cyber attack — her story needs to be posted.  People need to see what she wrote. I am privileged to be where she chose to make her story available. In my post The Event of a Tyrannized Life, I addressed how hard it is to tell the story of the event tyranny: lots of ugly, tedious, potentially embarrassing details.

Free Bird showed her courage. She was strong enough to share. She has told me that it was hard to do, but there are other women who are afraid to leave and need to hear her story…maybe it will help.… Read the rest

Bill Belichick and Other Lessons in Silliness

I originally posted this on SGMsurvivors.com some months ago:  http://www.sgmsurvivors.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=124

However, this is classic CJ Mahaney and SGM thinking and practice, so it bears repeating and repeating and repeating. >snicker<

Bill Belichick is not humble. Or so seems to be Vicar Charles Joseph’s assessment.

Heheh… this is rich. I’ve made it a point to ignore SGM doings for a long time. I probably shouldn’t have because now I realize how many choice moments of laughter I’ve missed.  This one article is so full of hilarity that I could write for a week with the jokes. http://www.sovereigngraceministries.com/Blog/post/Reflections-on-Super-Bowl-XLII.aspx

Before I digress into peals of mirth, let me focus my comments: CJ’s Belichick article is classic SGM non sequitur… sequitur.

Notice Vicar Charles Joseph’s comments: “Would he be humble and gracious in defeat? Sadly, he didn’t appear to be. Before the game officially ended, he had already left the field. Sure, he did make his way across the field to congratulate Tom Coughlin, but then he left the field and the game was not over!… Read the rest
